Institutionalizing Faith-Based Management Education in a Catholic University

Main Article Content

Abstract

De La Salle University started in the Philippines as a Catholic school of business in 1911 through the initiative of Archbishop Harty of Manila. Its faith-based orientation gave way to a more secular one in the following decades as it adopted the more scientifi c and technical approaches of Western business schools. Recent changes in the environment of business education globally, combined with a series of initiatives by academic leaders, has pushed management education closer to its faith-based roots, culminating in the establishment of the university’s new Management and Organization Department. These initiatives and their initial results are analyzed using the lens of institutional entrepreneurship theory.
